Attitude of Gratuitude

Image
A key practice in Reiki is to recite the Go-kai - the precepts , daily. The 4th precept is Kansha shite - be thankful/ grateful - for our life, energy,  our companions, and this amazing universe.  Daily Circle ᏔᎵ (Ta-li - two) If we wish to have a more harmonious world, and to foster a healthy environment, teachers from many paths invite us to set our intention for this, and engage with gratuitude.  Express gratitude daily: get up and give thanks to the elements: earth, air, fire and water.  A Hindu practice: touch the floor with your hand, greeting the earth before stepping out of bed.  Give thanks for food and drink Appreciate little moments of beauty and joy. Shine your light - as we see ourselves as radiant beings, we become them! Do your personal practices, and release the outcome - Tai chi, yoga, meditation, Reiki, kindness... Pay-it forward. When someone offers help, or does something kind, follow suit when you notice an opportunity.  Connect w...

Reiki Precept Cards

Image
It's a wrap! We had a lovely time in our Reiki 1 class this weekend, with my granddaughter Emily and her mom joining the other students yesterday. (Emily is a college student, and they could only stay half the day.  We three will get together later, to complete the teachings) Robin, Seana and Nadya after Reiki class The class was so sweet, and the Time Angels assisted us each day! The space was great for our class, with a cozy seating area for talking story, hot tea, a session room that's perfect for practicing the treatments, and we created the cards in the conference room! Making small cards or prayer flags for inspiration, affirmation, setting intention is one of my favorite quick projects, and is a perfect way to connect with the Reiki Precepts or Principles!  Collage card on brown paper In many traditions, flags of paper or cloth are hung to send prayers, praise and blessings on the wind. Cards can be placed on a shelf, or tucked into a journal pocket. (A pretty en...

Nearly class time

Image
In just 4 days, we meet for our Reiki I class - are you ready? (Though I've posted it on my women's creative group, this class is open to both women and men, and children over 12) This is always a precious time of anticipation and preparation, for both students and teacher. I'll be pulling together handouts and supplies, and getting my extra massage table from storage.  Reiki Class in progress Several students will be joining from our community, plus a few family members. I always look forward to seeing how the class unfolds, and the insights that sparkle through.  At times, students ask 'how to decide' where they fit on the sliding scale. Since I began teaching Reiki in the fall of 1991, I've wanted to make Reiki initiation available to anyone who felt called to do the work. I've also realized, like Hawayo Takata, that there needed to be an 'energy exchange' for students to value the teachings. In her stories about Reiki, Mrs Takata shared that ...

Miracle Hour

Image
Several years ago,  I found an inspiring piece by Chelsea Dinen, encouraging us to wake up a bit earlier, for a  Miracle Hour .  Popularized by Hal Elrod, the  Miracle Hour  weaves elements found in the Artist Way  Morning pages ,  Morning Cafê , and  practices like  Reiki, Breema and Qigong. The acronym  SAVERS  provides a key to the ~ 10 minute components that comprise Miracle Hour: S  - Silence (Self-Reiki!) A  - Affirmation (Mental/Emotional self treatment) V  - Visualization E  - Exercise (Qigong or Breema) R  - Read - daybook or inspirational S  - Scribing (Reiki or Gratitude journal) A session of  Self-Reiki , can combine both  Silence  during the treatment flow, and  Affirmations , thinking of the Reiki Principles, and an Affirmation can be combined  Mental/ Emotional  healing. Another option is to practice a breathing exercise, I like this one from Wim Hof ...

Purpose, Healing and Ikigai

Image
Being human can be thought of as a dance of finding balance between our connections and our own unique spark, our place and purpose.  In Okinawa, home of more centenarians than most other areas of the globe, discovering one's purpose is a key factor to well being, and is called Ikigai . When we align with our values and purpose, we are more content in good times, and resilient in times of stress. This in turn can lead to enhanced health and wellbeing.  Some factors which promote my sense of well being include enjoying a mainly whole foods diet (with a preponderance of local,  fiber rich foods, fresh when possible), moving throughout the day, spending time outside, connecting with friends and family, and engaging in creative pursuits.   For over 40 years, I've been engaged in Healing Arts as a Licensed Massage Therapist, and feel inspiring others fulfills my sense of purpose. I've always identified a creative, and enjoy teaching creating and healing. ...

Rose Gold

Image
Several years ago whilst going through my spring cleaning and dethughing, I pulled an angel Card from one of my decks ... and a bit later, came upon a fascinating   video  from British healer  Amanda Ellis  , and watched several - Wow!  One was a piece about having been sick with a double whammy virus,  Archangel Metatron   (Pre pandemic) which returned just as she thought she was over it! Amanda works with the Archangels, especially Metatron, and shared a teaching about receiving an  energetic reset , rather like a vaccine for our physical bodies to match the evolution of our spiritual bodies, as many shift from 3-D to 5-D.  Now this concept of illness as a reset is something a one of my daughter Mary's co-workers suggested over a decade ago. Her friend sees being ill as a chance for the body to do a tune-up, basically going through all the systems, tuning them to better efficiency, and often forgoing more serious illness. And it...

Creative Journal

Image
One of my favorite protects is to create Cosmic Smashbooks and Juju Journals!  When she was in her color of Woman teacher training, our Red Thread SiStar  Catt Geller  wanted an option suitable for low-income participants. She thought of using simple composition books - and  Cosmic Smashbooks  were born!  After my own graduation from Color of Woman Teacher training in 2015, I corresponded with Catt, and was granted permission to teach local classes for several years, before she began her certification program.  I offer a simple journal process in my Reiki 2 classes, inviting students to document their Reiki experiences. In these Good Medicine journals, we used Apothecary vessels to transform old stories into remedies .  Reiki 2 Good Medicine journals Composition books are readily available, and provide a good foundation for Journaling, using word and image. Many of us covered notebooks with brown paper - that's a great beginning. ...

For Today

Image
The Reiki precepts begin  kyo dake wa , just for today ... When we have Reiki, we can invite the energy to flow into our activities and interactions throughout the day.  When Hawayo   Takata , who brought Reiki to the West, awaited surgery in Dr Maeda's hospital in Tokyo, each of the meals prepared by the doctor's dietician sister was  blessed with Reiki : green tea, Rice, beans, steamed vegetables, seaweed.  As she learned Reiki herself, Mrs Takata blessed her own food and drink, and later recommended her students do the same. Spiritual leaders and teachers from most traditions suggest blessing whatever we ingest. Say a little prayer before a meal, imagine rainbows in your water - if we do this daily, it soon becomes second nature. We can also use blessings and Reiki around the home: set up an altar (appropriate to your traditions and beliefs) Keep a gratitude journal - begin and/ or end your day with gratitude hold seeds, flowers or herbs a minute before...
