Welcome year of the Snake

恭喜发财 - gong xi fa cai

Blessings in the year of the Wood Snake!
May you be blessed as we move forward, shedding old skins and finding new opportunities!

Blessing tree
The year of the dragon (just ended) asked us to evolve, grow up and let go of old patterns. Three next several days (through February 3) seat the new energies.

In the year of the Snake, we enter young adulthood and can thrive with the strength to accomplish our goals.
Snake medicine invites us to explore and exemplify:
  • Wisdom and intelligence. This is a time to seek knowledge and understanding
  • Caution and prudence - plan your actions and reevaluate.
  • Mystery and intuition - pay attention!
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability.
  • Tenacious and diligent
  • Transformation and renewal.  The Snake's ability to shed its outgrown skin is a wonderful example of letting go of that which no longer serves! And let what's underneath some!
  • Protection and healing.

In Asian Astrology, the Snake's allies are the Ox and Rooster, and Monkey its secret friend. Carrying an image of your animal's secret buddy its especially helpful when you 'share' am animal's year.
The Wood element gives strength and drive necessary to follow though on projects.  Wood feeds Fire - so the Snake's prudence and caution bring necessary balance and attention to timing.
It's helpful to channel some of the energy into mindful activity for balance (Qigong and Breema are two of my favorites - and offer online options.

Are you ready to welcome new energy?

  3. Thanks for the insight into the characteristics of the snake. My daughter-in-law is proud to be born under this sign. It is interesting that many of the creatures in the 12 signs are commonly known for their lower qualities but their higher ones are often forgotten or overlooked.

And yes - it's more balanced to look at helpful qualities as well as the less desirable! A favorite Western Astrology book does a great job pointing us to the 'high road' traits of different signs!
