Rolling Oranges

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Blessings this year of the Dragon

If you've followed my blogs for long, you'll know I love holidays, ceremony rituals! Am annual favorite for over a decade is cleaning and preparing for the Asian of lunar new year.

My friend Gwynne is a Feng Shui practioner, and has lovely tips on her blog for celebrating Chinese New Year, including: 'Roll 88 cases, or 88, or 8 single oranges one by one through your front door (& every exterior door that enters your home) and across your threshold, as well as real coins, ingots, gold chocolate coins into your home & business to symbolize filling them with abundance of good luck & prosperity. Then share the fruit with friends & neighbors.'

Here's a citrus 'money tree' from a decade ago in the Galloway House - there's an old Chinese legend of a tree with branches of coins & gold, - when you shake it, the gold falls like rain from heaven!

This year I have a small bay tree, decorated with hearts and a few trinkets.
Gwynne recommends that we prepare by

#1 - Giving your home & business a fabulous spring clean! Clear away dirt, clutter, & old stagnant chi to welcome new energy for the New Year. Everything should be sparkling!!

Gwynne suggests we pay off or down debts, & "Treat yourself to a brand new purse & wallet, & fill it with lots of cash!"
Each year, I ask my bank tellers for a roll of 1$ coins, and place them in red envelopes! The teller was intrigued, & quite helpful - I like to give them to my grandchildren!

On lunar NY eve, turn on all the lights, open windows, and make some noise at midnight! I also place salt in a wee bowl overnight to clear any tired energy 🥣

Other suggestions include getting a haircut before New Year (I got one in January) & wear red and favorite jewels. Share a feast with friends and family, laugh lots - invite bayou energy to surround you.

Blessings on this year of the dragon!

  1. Happy Lunar New Year Nadya. Love the photo with oranges all over the floor! Is it too late to do those things in the next few days? I had no idea until today when I was reading the google doodle information, and then tonight reading your blog. Take care

  2. I think a lot of it is setting your intention, and doing what feels appropriate! You can certainly roll oranges with the intention of welcoming luck, just about any time!
While it's best not to clean on NY day, you can get back to it next week, move things around, open the windows, turn on lights, spiff up the entrance, and wash your front door etc!
