A Pinch of Salt
First and foremost for harmonizing energy is periodic edits of our spaces (i.e. clearing clutter!) to reflect current interests and activities. Clutter clearing isn't a 'once and done' event- rather its an onging process! To choose what belongs, Cass from Clutterbug suggests asking yourself:
- Where would I look for this?
- Would I even know I have it (and would I use it)?
- Do I have one I like/ that works better?
A tip to assist clearing that's simple and effective - use salt! Amanda Gibby Peters writes it's, "An everyday, any situation cleanse. You simply leave a small bowl of (sea or Himalayan) salt out for 24 hours. At 24 hours, dispose of it outside in the dirt or trash - whatever makes the most sense for you. You will feel brighter and lighter immediately."
In a multi level space, Amanda suggests placing a bowl on each floor - as I prepared my home for sale last fall, I often put a spoonful of salt in a votive holder downstairs, and another in a shell upstairs, then tipped them out the following day. This was especially helpful when I began to feel bogged down!
And .... I was delighted to have a call about buying my house while they were in place one day! (You can't over- use this cure - just remember to dispose of the spent salt outside within 24 hours!)
Other tips to accompany the energy clearing:
- Set your intention - focus on how you'd like your space to feel, and invite the assistance of your guides, allies, angels, as appropriate in your own tradition.
- After doing a clearing, add a bit of salt to your bath water. I like to use Epsom salts with a bit of essential oil, and add baking soda with borax (1 Tbsp borax to 1 C baking soda, use one handfull of the mix to 2 handfuls of Epsom salts.)
- Add a bit of salt (or washing soda) when washing your cleaning clothes, linens, and clothes you haven't worn for awhile. I generally add borax as well. (Antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial!)
- Stay hydrated, especially while cleaning and purging! Take a pinch of salt before sipping water - this makes the cells more receptive!
- If you practice Reiki or another energy modality, include those as appropriate.
Gwynne Warner suggests sprinkling salt in room corners (where energy accumulates), then sweeping it up the next day. The salt collects stagnant / negative energy, so again, it's important to take that next step and toss it out!
I have a salt candle holder at my office and wipe it with a dry cloth (which I wash with my linens) at the end of the day. At home, i set it outside in a sheltered space overnight periodically.
Other ways salt and other easy access items can be used for clearing:
- Dissolve some salt in hot water, and use with your favorite natural cleaning agent to wash doors, surfaces and windows. (This can be done spring and fall, more frequently as needed)
- Feeling stuck on a project? Put a small bowl of salt on your desk while you 'sleep on it!'
- Add a bit of salt (or washing soda) to the laundry when washing clothes from a friend or thrift store to clear predecessor energy.
- I give the walls in my treatment room an occasional wash with a bit of salt and fresh herbs or drop of essential oil in the water.
- When washing floors, add a bit of salt and several sprigs of fresh basil (or another favorite herb - Rosemary and hyssop are traditional) to the water
- A salt bowl could be used in treatment rooms, and discarded at the end of the day, or a salt lamp wiped with a dry washcloth, and set outside for awhile weekly.
- Following an intense session in her room, the acupuncturist in our clinic got fresh mint from the market, used it to wipe the walls, and invited me to help clear the space with Reiki!
Thanks for these ideas with salt. I happen to have and use sea and epsom salt and borax. And I have a potted rosemary. I shall put them all to use and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteThat's great - I'd love to hear how it goes! It always feels fresher when I use salt for clearing.
DeleteThank you for sharing as I didn't know to do this with salt but I will be purchasing some the next time I go shopping. Have a nice day and a wonderful week as we wrap up the #UBC.
ReplyDeleteOoo good - have a lovely week as well!
DeleteIn many parts of India, we use salt to ward off the evil eye at various occasions.. So it was certainly interesting to read this post..
ReplyDeleteSalt spices up a dull meal, too, no matter what the doctors say. Used in this instance may also help my decluttering efforts! I will try it!!
