Holiday Hummus

Image
After enjoying a lovely  ᎠᎵᎮᎵᏍᏗᎢᎦ (ga-li-he-lis-di i-ga  Thanksgiving)  meal with the family yesterday, (all beautifully gluten free - and only one dish had dairy!) I'm enjoying my 'back to normal' fare... Brussel sprouts, beans, quinoa and natto Yesterday I brought out some  chickpeas I had in the freezer, and decided to make two batches Holiday Hummus - oh my!!  I used recipes from the 'Bits and Bites' chapter of Gaz Oakley's Vegan 💯 cookbook, and they are awesome! ᎰᏩ (Ho-wa / ok) that's not what Gaz (who's Welsh!) Calls them - but don't you think a seasonal name perfect for these 'super pink beetroot' and 'pumpkin sage' hummus beauties?? Roasted beets and squash seeds I roasted slices of acorn squash , their seeds and garlic cloves in my air fryer (with olive oil and salt); then roasted the quarterd beets. Mini processor and Holiday Hummus Rather than Tahini, I used the squash seeds and roasted garlic in both batches - rice vi...

Flags for Intentions

Several years ago,  my   feed   over on Instagram delivered a wonderful post featuring a continuing saga of the artist's adventures ...  In her post,  Hannah  wrote about a taking much anticipated camping trip, which turned into a sodden disaster! She wrote that they hung their 'cloutie flags' upon setting up their campsite in Cornwall.  Clootie flags on my porch I guessed she meant small cloth prayer flags or banners, and  found this  article when I looked it up: The Scots word ‘clootie’ means ‘cloth’ - the term can also be found in use in the Scottish dessert, the ‘ clootie dumpling ’. (A Scotts pudding , with dried fruit - currents, raisins and the like) which is boiled in a cloth (the clootie).   Clootie flags  are scraps of cloth, hung from trees surrounding a sacred well or spring. These sources of fresh water have been considered places of healing for millennia, and the flags hold prayers for healing.  Tra...

Sweet & Spicy soup

I was thinking of making Hungarian Mushroom Soup, after coming home from Book Group. My daughter made an awesome vegan cream of mushroom the other day, and I still had some baby bellas in my own fridge ... Soup simmering in wok I had in mind Hungarian Mushroom Soup  a la Old Wives Tale (via chefs who had worked at the restaurant in N E Portland, and brought the recipe to Breitenbush ...) ... But landed on Gaz Oakley's Sweet & Spicy Broth, in his Vegan 💯 cookbook ...  The Combo of tamari, Rice vinegar, miso, rice vinegar and maple syrup, plus ginger and garlic are delightful! R ather than a red chilli, I used a Tbsp of smoked paprika, and Baby Bellas for the mushrooms!  Mallow flower and leaves Greens include mallow, chard and Good King Henry from the garden, and I made a batch of my famous veggie stock ! mmmm I'm culturing a new batch of coconut milk yogurt, so topped my bowl with what was left on the jar 🫙 and topped with chives from the garden. Do you have ...
